The 'Z-Rod' emerges whilst Roaming Scotland pauses.

A Pictish warrior alongside a Celtic monk forms the highly evocative cover illustration for Chosen Wanderers. Both look wild adventurers don’t they?

Celtic monks styled themselves in appearance on the druids

The Celtic monks were not soft guys growing fat in a monastery, but are renown as hardy adventurers. Many had been trained as high-status warriors in kingly courts, so rugged valour and outspokenness were characteristics particularly valued and exhibited. These trail-blazing wanderers spoke out for justice, offered sanctuary to the dispossessed and the enquiring and presented an alternative worldview to secure peace amidst tumultuous upheavals.

The ‘Z-Rod’ series of novels are coming to light during the temporary but lengthy closure of my Roaming Scotland business during these Covid times. ‘Chosen Wanderers’, is due to be released in late March. Currently, I’m working on the edit of its sequel, making for intense days immersed in the warrior world of 6th century Scotland. Further previews are to follow, but for the time being, I’ll leave you with a quote from the backcover blurb:

By turns epic and homely, spiritually searching and thoroughly adventurous, this story of great undoing and remaking propels us through multiple scenes and characters in a setting which is utterly convincing in its detail.
